With winter well on it's way here in Australia I wouldlike to share my Australian Home Jouranl Winter Fashions 1958 catalog, I have only scaned a few colourful pages from the 34 there are. However if there is something you would like to see I am more then happy to post it if I have it. Note there is only one black and white page for men's clothes, what a bore. Enjoy!Sewing my way into a Vintage Life. With a bit of cooking, gardening and history along the way.

Sunday Sewing
I haven't had time to finish anything but I thought I might post what I am working on.
Since I have been doing a lot of sewing since I started moving my family to a more retro life Darling Husband has now started to work with me. He has asked me to make Master Little 7 a new pair of jean's, I am going to use an old toy bag, since the toys have been moved to a more durable box.

Work, Work, Work!
My Darling Husband and I own a small business. At the moment I am currently training new staff, mostly to free up my time for the family. We are also hoping to expand in the next few months, it's seems to be never ending. I have much paperwork to do and have people coming to train us on new computer softwear. Due to these changes I will be rather ramdon and all over the place, if here at all, for the next few weeks.
We are looking at getting a nanny, not sure how retro that is but we may have to. Any idea's would be most welcome as we have never been down that road and have avoided child care.
Sewing and reading my olds mags are the only things keeping me going.
For those lovely few who follow me, thank you and please bear with me.
P.s. Sorry about the spelling I just blab it out and hope for the best at the moment.

Sorry no pink. They also have paper holders and towel rails and rings.

New Background
Today I added a new backgroung to my blog, but I'm not sure about it. It's called Sundried from The Cuties Blog on the Block. They have a lot of free backgrounds and blog stuff, so I thought I might try something new. My fav colour is green and I wanted to keep it simple and easy to read.
What do you think?

Give Away
Well I am so pleased with my self that I thought I would have a give away because
- I would like to say thank you to all my lovely followers,
- I am still sewing strong and haven't bought a new item of clothing for myself this year,
- My blog is still here 4 months on, that 1/3 of the year,
- I have over 25 Lovely People,
- and I just love to share the happiness of retro.
So here is two 1950's USA mags, two vintage patterns ( one for mum and one for little miss) and two fat Q's of retro style fabric to get crafty with. My Darling Husband always say's "One ticket is all you need to be in it to win it" so leave a lovely comment "to be in it to win it". You have one week to pop over and say HI!
And a big Thank You to all the Lovely People who leave lovely comments,(I think I might use that word a bit too much).

Pin Curls
Well so far I have had very mixed results with pin curls, I'm not sure if I am doing them right and Darling husband is of little help. I have found a nice girl and a hair product store who seems very helpful. So I have taken some photo's of what I tryed this weeked and I think it look's worse in the photo's then it was.
I wanted to try for some simple wavy hair, not a lot of ring curls, but I think I used the wrong styling product and the curls were as stiff as. Oh well I'll just keep trying.

Sunday Sewing
I have already used this pattern twice before and love how well it fits and suits me, it never fails to pull compliments’. My other dresses are the full skirt type in blue and green (which I seem to have fogoten to blog), both have more of a house/mother feel to them, so I wanted this one to be different.
Before making this dress I copied the whole pattern on to light weight but strong non-iron interfacing so I won’t destroy the original.

Australian Home Journal
Here are some new ones just added to my collection, not all of them are in good condition but they came with patterns. And since I want the patterns as much or sometimes more I don't mind, besides you never know when you might find one without the pattern in great nick. Enjoy.

Book Review
A Pressure Cooker Saved My Life by Juanita Phillips
I heard about this book on the radio while driving and thought it sounded like just what I needed, and it was. I’m a fan of the slow cooker myself so the cooking aspect of this book was not of great interest to me however I can see the appeal to others.
