Sunday Sewing

The Pink Shirt
I needed a new top, some thing for everyday wear. I was going to buy something and then remembered how easy it was to make Master Little 1's shirt. Why not one for me too?
First the pattern, it's number 96 from the Golden Dressmaker, Darling Husbands pick.

Retro Headscarfs

Late at night after the childern have gone to bed I hide in the bathroom and try to put pincurls in my hair. I am slowly starting to get the hang of it but alas the weather is not with me. With all the rain we are having it's raised the hummidity and it's killing my hair do's.

The other issue I'm having is if I want to leave the pincurls in but I need to go out waht to do. My book “Vintage Hairstyling, retro styles with step-by-step techniques”, has one page about headscarfs but I found this great "How to tie a Headscarf" over at Super Kawaii Mama. Enjoy.

Pink Bathroom anyone?

I just had to post this add for a pink bathroom I found. Australian Home Beautiful, April, 1958.
There is no way Darling Husband will ever let me have a pink bathroom but I'll settle for the layout please. I think this might be my new big reno after the Kitchen/Patio are done. I will have to start putting idea's into the man's head now so he thinks it's his great idea when the time come.

In the Depths of a Cupboard

I haven’t’ seen many articles or images of inside cupboard so this one’s a first for me. Australian Woman, June 14, 1954, has two whole pages to sorting out cupboard space. It’s not a bad read and we have not improved on the advice much since.

I am just adding the last few bits to Miss Little’s new cupboard space and wanted some vintage ideas. Some I really liked, like putting a hanging rail at the child’s height.

New Shoes

For those who know me I’m not the shopping type and that include shoes, but today I found a pair I just couldn’t leave behind. Miss Little, my mother and myself were out to get new school shoe’s for Miss Little, her old pair had gone off for a walk on their own.

Links moved

I have moved all my links to a new page you can access from a tab at the top "Links". I have added a few new ones, if you know of any you think I should add please let me know. I am on the look out for retro Australian sites or blogs mostly.

Thank you for any ideas.

For Sale

Well I posted my first eBay sale item today, 20x Used Dress Patterns.

As part of my Thrifty 365 challange I've been cleaning up and cleaning out. In stead of taking evrything to the local thrift strore bins I throught I would sell some things on eBay and see how I go. Not very retro I know but if the stuff sells I can use that money towards 1950's Australian collection.

If you visit my eBay sale I would love some feed back as I'm not sure about the whole thing, thankyou.

Book Review

Sometime ago I went looking for a book about vintage hairstyles and how-to’s. Being very much a beginner I wanted a book with a lot of help and explanation, and a bit of history too. I bought “Vintage Hairstyling, retro styles with step-by-step techniques”, out of many books I found it seemed the most promising.

It’s filled with many great photos and lovely everyday models. Basics are covered such as hair products and tools, with good images and descriptions, so you know what you’re looking for when you go shopping. I liked this as I hate having shop assistance tell me what they think I need, I want to know what I’m looking for and be able to decided how much I want to spend on it.

Rainy days and sleeping-in

I am putting a lot of reading time into bedrooms of late, due to the fact I want to do Master Little 2’s room as retro as I can. And it’s a lot harder than I thought, I can only find a little info and even fewer pic’s, so putting it all together this is what I’ve found out.

Australians were well behind the time and often did not want to let go of the past designs. While plain bold colours were being used it was not unusual to find much patterned carpet, often in floral, of a busy patterned curtain or armchair. We must also take into mind that what is “Fashionable” in the magazines was not always attainable by everyone; they might only have owned a few key items.
